CREATING A DEMO

Welcome back to our musicians info series. In today’s addition, we will look at the importance of creating a demo for your band. A demo is short for demonstration and that is exactly what it is, a demonstration of your bands songs. When a band is coming up it is important that they create a professional sounding demo as this will probably be the first bit of music that most people hear of them. I am going to break down the most important aspects of bringing a demo CD together.
  • Write, Write, Write – First of it is important that you have written a small selection of songs that you are happy with and feel showcase yourself an artist/band. You can put covers on a demo, but I feel that original songs really showcase your individuality.
  • Choose Your Best Songs – It is important that you pick the songs that you feel have the best structure, are lyrically strongest and the songs you are most proficient playing as an artist/band.
  • Find A Studio – Although it is possible to record your own demos, unless you have a lot of experience and know how in recording I would recommend using a professional studio to record your demo. The reason for this, is that a professional sounding demo can be the difference between being signed and being binned. Make sure you research the studio you use to record, there is no better place to do that than StudioBookers.com as we provide you with all the information you need to make a decision, all in one place.
Remember the most important part of the process is the writing and rehearsing. It is much easier to record a well-written song than to try and gloss over the poor writing in the recording stage. You MUST also make sure that you have rehearsed until you can play the songs in your sleep before entering a studio.

Below is a video of Lady Gaga talking about her songwriting process, take it in!
