PROMOTING YOUR MUSIC ONLINE



With the introduction of the social networks it has become a lot easier to promote your band over the internet and if used effectively can even lead to an artist/band being signed (if that’s what you want.) The big advantage to internet promoting is that it can be done at little or no cost. This article has been written to provide you with a few tips to help you with your online promotion.

  • Utilise social media sites such as Twitter/Facebook/Myspace. These allow you to engage with your fan base enabling you to tell them what you are up to (recording, gigging etc,) and also to answer any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Upload new music regularly be it through Youtube, Soundcloud or any other medium. Fans want to hear new music from you whenever possible and uploading new stuff frequently keeps the buzz going. Youtube is also very important because it allows you to upload live performances of your music.
  • Create a professional looking band website! A band website allows people to learn more about yourself or your band. As well as providing fans with more information about yourself or your band a website also shows your are serious as musicians.
  • Get your music out to relevant blogs and websites. Bloggers are always looking for new music so if you send them something they like they are going to post it up and that will give you some nice exposure.
  • Create a mailing list to inform fans of any news or developments. Musicians very often overlook mailing lists, however they are the best way to spread your music to your fans, if you don’t have one get one sorted now!


So as you can see there are plenty of ways to promote your music on the Internet, it’s all about immersing yourself in the opportunities that are out there. With the right online promotion you can grow your fan base massively.
